Kristen Clarke was selected by President Joe Biden to head the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division in May, making her the first woman and the first Black woman to hold the position since the department’s founding in 1957. The Harvard University and Columbia Law School graduate previously served as the president of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and previously managed the Civil Rights Bureau of the New York State’s Attorney General Office.
