Kizzmekia S. Corbett, a lead coronavirus scientist and American viral immunologist, has transformed the world since the pandemic first hit. This has been particularly evident in her efforts to develop the Moderna vaccine. In 2021, Corbett was the recipient of the North Carolina Award, the state’s highest honor, for the coronavirus research she completed. She was also brought on to be an assistant professor at Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2021 in order to continue her work on vaccine development. On top of her remarkable professional accomplishments, as a Black female scientist, she invests much of her time into being an advocate for STEM education and serving unprivileged communities.
