Ian D. Barclay

Ian is a Managing Director of The Colony Group’s Rocky Mountain Region office and serves as Co-President of Colony Sports and Entertainment.  He brings extensive experience counseling active and professional athletes, with particular expertise counseling past and present NHL players in the area of international tax and cross-border financial considerations. Ian served as one of three co-founding partners of the Denver-based wealth management firm, Jones Barclay Boston, in 1994, which merged with The Colony Group at the start of 2017.  Ian comes to Colony with detailed knowledge and experience in structuring finances to maximize wealth accumulation and preservation in a tax-efficient manner.  He provides comprehensive wealth management and financial advisory services to high-net-worth individuals and families throughout the United States and internationally. Ian has accumulated years of broad wealth management experience working at Clarkson Gordon (now Ernst & Young) and Price Waterhouse prior to launching his own CPA firm which later evolved into Jones Barclay Boston. Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec. Ian studied finance and accounting at McGill University.  He later studied at the Graduate Tax Program at the University of Denver School of Law.  Ian is a Certified Public Accountant, holds the Personal Financial Specialist designation from the AICPA, and is a member of the American Institute of CPAs Tax and Personal Financial Planning Sections. He is a founding Board Member of the Canada-Colorado Association and a former Board Member and Treasurer of the Denver Athletic Club. In his spare time, Ian enjoys traveling with his family, spending time outdoors, and taking advantage of all the great things Colorado has to offer.
