Swiss watchmaker Hublot launches its first timepiece dedicated to the sport of golf.

World number one golfer and Hublot spokesperson Dustin Johnson and Hublot marketing director Tardivel Philippe unveil the new Big Bang Unico Golf in Shanghai on October 23.

At an exclusive event set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Bund, the stunning waterfront area of central Shanghai, on October 23, Hublot introduced the Big Bang Unico Golf in collaboration with company spokesperson and world number one golfer Dustin Johnson.

“Hublot stands for the art of fusion—the combination of materials that are precious with others that are not so precious, like gold combined with rubber. That’s what Hublot has been known for. This concept we’ve extended to different categories of watches,” explained Hublot marketing director Tardivel Philippe. “Today is historic for Hublot, to be launching its first golf watch—the Big Bang Unico Golf.”

With the look and function of a chronograph, the extremely lightweight timepiece—weighing in at precisely 97.93 grams—is made of titanium and carbon fiber with two strap options: black rubber with white calf, resembling a golf glove, or black Velcro, both of which snap on and off.

The watch features a new “Unico” movement, created specifically for golf, which allows the wearer to record the number of strokes taken via a putter-shaped pusher at 2 o’clock. A pusher at 4 o’clock keeps track of the hole in play, and the counter at 6 o’clock displays the total number of strokes. The tee-shaped pusher at 8 o’clock resets the counter back to zero at the end of a round. A full skeleton mechanism reveals the inner workings of the watch.

“I love the way it looks,” Johnson said of the Big Bang Unico Golf. “I like the way Hublot tied in golf throughout the whole watch. There’s really nothing else like it—especially not on a high-end level.”

The winner of the 2016 U.S. Open and the 2017 Genesis Open, which propelled him to world number one status, Johnson owns 11 Hublot timepieces and says he’s a longtime fan of the brand. “For me, aesthetics matter most. I have to love the way it looks if I’m going to wear it. This one is my new favorite. It’s really cool-looking, super light and super comfy.”
