Liz Hershfield serves as J.Crew Group’s (JCG) Senior Vice President of Sustainability and SVP of Sourcing at Madewell. Leading the Group’s Sustainability efforts, Liz oversees all aspects of sustainability across J.Crew, Madewell & J.Crew Factory, as well as all production & sourcing activities for Madewell.

Since joining JCG in October 2019, Liz has spearheaded the brands’ efforts in ESG reporting, accelerated the Group’s commitment to science-based targets and climate goals and championed innovative partnerships with Circular Systems, Fair Trade and the Fashion Pact.

She was responsible for identifying soil health as a critical focus for JCG, with cotton representing over 70% of JCG’s material footprint. With this critical focus, Liz has been a champion for regenerative agriculture, partnering with Textile Exchange & Kering Group on the Regenerative Agriculture Landscape Analysis report as well as concepting and implementing JCG’s impact credit initiatives, supporting US farmers making a transition to regenerative agriculture.

Prior to joining J.Crew Group, Liz was Chief Supply Chain Officer at Bonobos, where she was a founding leader, overseeing the full supply chain function from product development to fulfillment. Liz led there for ten years through the sale of the brand in 2017 to Walmart, where she then transferred to Walmart’s eCommerce brand incubation team, where she led product development, production, and sustainability. Earlier in her career, Liz held senior roles in production and product development at Gap Inc.

In 2021 Liz was named to the Rivet 50 Index, as one of the most influential leaders in advancing the business of denim, thanks to her role in driving sustainable denim for the Madewell brand. Based in New York, Liz also serves as a board member for the Grace Institute, a New York-based organization that helps low-income women develop professional skills.
