Spirulina is presented as “the richest food in nature after breast milk.” This cyanobacteria, formerly called “blue algae” has been around 3.5 billion years. But it was only in the 60s that a botanist, Jean Leonard rediscovered it. He did not understand why a tribe of Lake Chad was in better health than others. And there he found that its members were eating spirulina, which spontaneously grows in the lake, said Emilie Rousselou, spokesman of the sector in France. These qualities have led to the solving of problems of malnutrition in Africa. / AFP / PHILIPPE DESMAZES (Photo credit should read PHILIPPE DESMAZES/AFP via Getty Images)
