IMPACT: ANA CORRALES HAS LIVED IN COSTA RICA, MEXICOand throughout the West Coast of the United States, but Silicon Valley is where she is making her mark as a rare female and Latina leader in the tech industry. She came to the area to attend Stanford, where she earned a master’s in engineering economic systems in 1997, and then got to work. She devised and patented a new method for storing solar energy, cofounded the startup SunModular andbrokered its sale to Nanosolar in 2010 while a senior executive at Cisco. She was at Cisco for 18 years, and through its Latino resource program Conexión, Corrales became a role model for minorities in science, technology, engineering and math. In 2015, Corrales joined Nest, where she oversees finance and operations. Acquired by Alphabet last year, Nest, with its self-learning, WiFi-enabled thermostats, smoke detectors and security systems, is a pioneer in smart-home technology and the internet of things.
