Sven-Olof Lindblad

CEO, LINDBLAD EXPEDITIONS

Sven Lindblad’s father, Lars-Eric Lindblad, founded Lindblad Travel in 1958 and led the first civilian expedition to Antarctica in 1966. The following year, he opened a similar path to the Galapagos Islands. Now in its 58th year and under Sven’s leadership, the company has established itself as the global leader in environmentally responsible adventure travel, particularly in the Arctic. But with global warming intensifying and ice sheets melting, Lindblad’s core product is endangered. To fight back, the company has dedicated itself to environmental education while diversifying its destinations to places like Cuba and Zambia.

“If you can give people an extraordinary experience and then have a conversation around the issues relating to that experience, the odds of making them think about it differently are exponentially greater,” Lindblad says of the company’s efforts to combat climate change. “We have the good fortune of taking people of influence, of means, who in many instances can make a difference.”
