These top treatment centers offer specialized care for teens and adolescents. Prices, which vary depending on the length of stay and level of treatment, are typically disclosed after an initial consultation, but expect to pay between $20,000 and $30,000 for a six-week program.

1. CARON TREATMENT CENTER

Caron’s Adolescent Treatment and Extended Care programs help teens between 14 and 19, while its Young Adult programs work with those between 20 and 25. The single-sex groups address issues related to chemical dependency including relapse prevention, depression and body image.
2. COTTONWOOD TUCSON

Cottonwood Tucson’s Young Adult program is a 45-day inpatient program for substance-abusing men and women ages 18 to 24 that involves age-specific workshops and meetings as well as outdoor activities like rock climbing.
3. ECHOMALIBU

Located between the Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, ECHO(Empowerment, Choices, Hope, Opportunities) offers customized treatment plans for adolescents. In addition to medical and psychiatric evaluations and one-on-one therapy sessions, participants can choose animal-assisted therapy, acupuncture and drama workshops.
4. NEWPORT ACADEMY

This small treatment center is divided into two gender-specific programs, each with no more than six adolescents at a time. During the minimum stay of 45 days, teens get both traditional and experiential therapies such as interacting with horses.
5. PASSAGES TO RECOVERY

This program for young men 18 and older combines traditional treatments and a 12-step addiction program with wilderness therapy, as participants backpack through canyons and forests.
6. PHOENIX ACADEMYOF NEW YORK

At this residential academy, part of the Phoenix House network of over 150 programs nationwide, teens can earn their high school diploma while receiving substance-abuse treatment.
7. PHOENIX OUTDOOR

As they hike through the Blue Ridge Mountains near Asheville, N.C., teens 13 to 17 experience hands-on wilderness therapy. In small single-sex groups, participants spend nine days camping and five days at the base camp.
8. ROSECRANCE

Rosecrance’s adolescent treatment program for 12- to 18-year-olds offers the counseling, recreational therapy and medical treatment of many traditional rehab centers in a quiet mountain lodge-like facility. The Monarch program, for teens 14 to 18, focuses on teaching practical skills like time management, budgeting and job-hunting.
9. STARLITE RECOVERY CENTER

While Starlite offers treatment programs for men and women 18 and older, its adolescent program is open only to boys ages 13 to 17. Participants can stay on campus as full-time residents during their 45-day treatment course, which includes detox, individual counseling, group activities and the chance to receive high school credit.
