The Internet often seems designed to torture
traditional magazine and newspaper publishers by offering their readers a host
of alternate ways to get their news and information, and to transact the sort of
business that was previously the mainstay of print advertising revenues.
Publishing conferences are often keynoted by hand-wringing industry doomsters
who assert that it is only a matter of time before print publications are
completely eclipsed by Web-based offerings.
For some publications, this may in fact be the case. We at
Worth
prefer to see the Web as complementary to our magazine, and we have been working
to update our Internet persona, worth.com, to better serve our readers.
Worth’s mission has always been
to provide a venue for affluent individuals and families to propose, share and
critique ideas about the problems and opportunities that arise from wealth. We
can address only a limited number of the many concerns our readers raise with us
each month. So one of our fundamental goals in redesigning our website has been
to provide an open forum for readers to broach and discuss issues of pressing
importance, both with Worth’s editors and with their peers. To this end, we have launched
the Worth Forum, a series of moderated discussion boards, organized by
topic.
Worth Forum offers a venue for readers to post questions or
comments–and respond to those raised by their peers–on topics of interest we
cover: wealth management, culture, policy, family matters or the markets for art
and collectibles. There is also a discussion board that readers can use to
respond to, supplement or otherwise critique the articles in the magazine.
As another service, we have added a Breaking News section to
the website, where we will post information important to our readers that is too
time-sensitive to wait for inclusion in the monthly magazine. Here you will find
new wealth management product reviews, analyses of market developments, coverage
of philanthropic events and trends and other materials of value to affluent
people. We hope this new section, representing the sharp end of the continuum of
Worth’s
editorial coverage from news through analysis, will be a useful addition to the
material in the magazine itself.
Of course, the site will continue to provide searchable access
to articles from our past issues, as well as databases of our Top Wealth
Advisors and Top Attorneys lists for those seeking new relationships with the
best in the business. Readers seeking to nominate their own advisors or
attorneys for consideration for those lists will find links allowing them to do
so online.
We look forward to deepening our relationships with our readers through these
mechanisms, and we hope you find these new ways to connect with your peers
valuable.
