2nd Families
11/01/2004

Our decision to begin a second family with a new spouse is a strong affirmation of confidence in our relationship, and in our hopes for the future. Blending two established family lifestyles is an enormous challenge, requiring patience and open-mindedness. Uniting two extant families and building the necessary bridges between stepparents and stepchildren are labors of love, especially given the many complications that affluence brings to bear on these new relationships. These hurdles may also focus our attention on attending to the estate planning needs of our new second families, while providing for the old.
