Congonhas Airport São Paulo’s busiest airport, Congonhas (SBSP),
processes more than 300 flights a day. Located closer to the downtown area than
Guarulhos, Congonhas has undergone a massive reconstruction effort that has
doubled departure lounges and parking spaces and increased its efficiency.
Unfortunately, Congonhas is not an international airport, so no customs services
are available.
Congonhas does offer ample space for parking, with two
business aviation ramps that feature room to park 26 aircraft as large as a
Dassault Falcon 50. Jets parked at Congonhas will need to reposition to
Guarulhos to leave the country. Still, business travelers who are already inside
Brazil, having landed in Rio, Belem or Manaus, will likely choose to land at
Congonhas when they come to São Paulo because the leading handlers are based
there.
Lider Signature (+55.11.5090.4016) offers airport handling and
maintenance, and charters jets and hangar space. This company also boasts strong
security practices, Lamon says. “You go from your corporate jet on the ramp to
the heliport through a secured stairwell, without ever having to leave the
secured zone,” he explains. “It’s a very secure transfer.”
Target Aviation
(55.11.5033.3600), a smaller charter provider at Congonhas, offers private jet
handling, maintenance and other traditional FBO services, with two hangars
available for rental. Target has Learjets and a Pilatus PC12 for charter.
São
Paulo’s third airport, Viracopos (SBKP), is used rarely for business aviation.
Instead, this is the primary airport for cargo transfers. It has 830,000 square
feet of available cargo storage, including some areas for live animals, making
it one of the largest distribution centers in South America.
