Choosing a Chooser

Predicting which stocks will be winners may seem a downright impossible task. But when it comes to choosing a broker that will get it right more often than not, it may be an easier matter. Stock picks from Raymond James have performed better both over the short term and longer haul, according to Zacks Investment Research. Zacks, a Chicago-based company, tracks the performance of equities recommended by 12 brokerage firms in its Zacks Broker Model Portfolio Survey. Raymond James topped the list during the third quarter of 2004 and first three quarters of 2005, as well as for one-, five- and seven-year periods through the end of September. Morgan Keegan had the next-best performance during the third quarter. Both firms benefited from an overweighting in the energy and technology sectors, says Charles Rotblut, a senior market analyst at zacks.com. For more information, see www.zacks.com.
