Donor’s Guide to Hurricane Relief
03/14/2006

The New York Regional Association of Grantmakers (NYRAG) has published a vetted list of charitable organizations working on recovery initiatives in the Gulf Coast region, as a resource for donors seeking to support those efforts. The guide, Donor’s Guide to Gulf Coast Relief & Recovery: The First 120 Days, is available on NYRAG’s web site (www.nyrag.org).

The document lists charitable organizations by their area of expertise (hunger, historic preservation or health, for example). It also provides pointers for foundation board members who wish to support Gulf Coast relief efforts, but who face one or more obstacles. (The first tip addresses how a grantmaker can help when his organization’s mandate limits him to supporting local charities.)

NYRAG notes that the resource guide is a work in progress; it will add nonprofits to the list over time.
